Introduction to wax carving (beginners)

For those with little or no prior jewellery making experience, this evening workshop takes you step-by-step through the wax carving process to bring your dream ring or pendant design to life.  You'll learn how lost wax casting works and explore techniques for creating textures and granulation using simple easy-to-use tools.

You can come with an idea or get some inspo from pieces that previous participants have made over on my Pinterest board.

By the end of the session you will have created a wax master which I’ll send away to London’s famous Hatton Garden jewellery district for casting in silver. I will then hand finish your piece according to your specifications and post it back to you in a beautiful Fairtrade cotton jewellery pouch within 3-4 weeks.

You can also have your piece gold plated for a small extra charge.

2.
Two week wax carving class (interemediate)

This two part wax carving workshop runs over two evenings, a fortnight apart.  It is designed for students who already have some jewellery making experience and are confident with piercing, filing and finishing techniques as well as with using a pendant motor and attachements.

Week 1

As with the beginners level class, we’ll explore wax carving techniques to create a ring or pendant design that will then be cast in recycled silver.

You’ll learn how to use a range of tools for wax carving including files, craft knives, sculpting tools and wax pens. You’ll then spend some time refining and finishing your pieces ready for casting.

As part of the class we’ll also look at the casting process and discuss shrinkage and mould making for multiple pieces.

Week 2

Following the return of our cast pieces, we’ll learn how to remove sprues, clean up the castings and apply our chosen finish.

We had a fantastic time at Elin's ring making workshop! Elin's guidance was exceptional, leading us through each step and offering ideas and tips along the way. It was a really nice environment, and despite our lack of prior experience, Elin made the process feel effortless. I wholeheartedly recommend Elin's workshop to anyone looking for a memorable experience!!

Stuart Nelson

My wife and I got given a voucher for Elin's wax jewelry workshop when we got married. IT WAS AWESOME!!! Elin has that magical balance between helping you get something while be very relaxed and supportive. I had a bit of a wacky idea and Elin got right behind it. I felt I got really close to what I had designed.

Would highly recommend if you're looking for something fun to do one evening.

Emily Naether

Had a wonderful experience in the ring making workshop! Elin was a lovely host and was always on hand for any questions/tips you might need.

Felt really good to be able to lean into my creative side while also experiencing something I've never done before.
Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys being creative and/or loves the idea of custom jewellery!
